International Events

1. ICWES
(International Conference of Women in Engineering and Sciences)

Femmes Ingénieurs attended the International Conference of Women in Engineering and Sciences (ICWES 12) in Ottawa, Canada in July 2002. This conference takes place every 3 years and allows exchanges of experiences between women in research and engineering on the vocation of women toward sciences. The President and Vice-President represented the association at this meeting. During this conference, the association presented a poster on statistics of women engineers in France, and animated a workshop on " opportunities of telecommuting for women engineers " based on a conference organized by the Women Engineers Commission of ESIEA (member of the association).

2. INWES
(International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists)

During ICWES-12 it has been decided to create a governing body that will help the following conferences get funds. Moreover, this organization will be the network of local scientific networks. During the inception phase of this structure, a committee representing all the world regions was elected to study the bylaws, the internal procedures and define the network's objectives. The French women engineers were chosen to represent Europe, which means that we now have to build relations with the other European women engineers to inform them of the progress of INWES and gather their feedback on the structures envisioned. This exchange of ideas will take place via face-to-face meetings and teleconferences.

The first INWES administrative council was hosted by Femmes Ingénieurs and took place May 1st and 2nd, 2003 in the UNESCO building in Paris, France. The event was kicked off on April 30th, 2003 by a private visit to the Hotel Lassay, which is part of the National Assembly, followed by a cocktail reception hosted by Claude Gaillard, questor of the National Assembly and Congressman of Meurthe-et-Moselle, and his wife Sylvette.

3. European Platform of Associations
Following an initiative from Nicole Dewandre, chief of the unit "Femmes et Sciences" of the Research sector of the European Commission, a European platform dedicated to associations is seeing the light. Femmes Ingénieurs is a member of the piloting committee.
