PROMOTION OF WOMEN ENGINEERS

As of a few years ago, women engineers have access to all the field of activities. Despite the progress made, illustrated in the results of the 14th CNISF survey, certain unbalances between women and men are still present as also illustrated in this survey.

Indeed, it hides a participation level of women still too low in pure sciences or engineering majors as well as in certain jobs. In addition, we notice that the access to upper management jobs is more difficult and that there is a significant salary difference between women and men, which grows with seniority.

To remedy this lack of enthusiasm the women have for the sciences, community activities are multiplying. Those activities are either governmental with the signature on February 2000 of the Convention for "the Promotion of equality of chances between women and men in the education system ", or from the ministry such as the Ministries of Research and Education, with the Secretary of Women's Rights, aware of the need to valorize all the competencies.

The engineering jobs are particularly representative of this situation with 16% women out of the entire engineering population (14th study) whereas the previous study indicated 13% women. In 2000, women represented 23% of the engineering population in schools. This leaves us to assume a bigger influx of women in the industry in the coming years.
